Avocado Bread
This weekend Scott and I went to Costco. Among other things, we bought a bag of avocados. This being Costco we couldn’t buy less than six and so after eating guacamole until we were green there were still two avocados left to use. We decided to split them up. One went home with Scott, the other stayed at my house.
Since I have nothing better to do at school I looked up online different things that I could do with an avocado. The most interesting recipe I found was for avocado bread. It got good reviews and I thought why not? People eat zuchini bread, pumkin bread and carrot cake, why not avocado? So it turns out, the avocado bread wasn’t half bad. It was green and had chunks of obvious avocado but strangely enough did not taste like avocado at all. It had a wonderful, moist consistency but tasted like a pumkin bread or zuchini bread without the “pumpkin” or “zuchini.” Something I would definitely make again if only to tweak it so that it actually tastes like something.
Exciting life, yeah?

Wednesday Blahs
Tomorrow is my last day of work for this week. Hurrah!
Work isn’t bad. Most of the time I play online and when I do have class its actually pretty fun. But not sharing a common language with your co-workers never stops being weird. I like them well enough and it seems they like me back but I wonder if they find it as weirdly funny as I do that our friendly exchange seems to be locked into a routine of “samui, ne?” “samui!” (it’s cold, huh? yeah, it’s cold!) In passing, there is not much more time to say anything else that is sure to be understood by both parties.
Now that the New Year has officially begun some questions are looming more heavily than before. Should I stay? Should I go? Trying to figure out the timing of departure and where I would depart to are a couple of puzzles I haven’t quite solved. I think about these questions especially when I’m leaving my frozen house to bike 30 minutes in the rain to school. At those times, I usually think a warmer climate would be a good choice.
So obviously, I’m at school now. Killing time until the last bell rings. I could be studying Japanese. But I’d rather hang out here, with you.
p.s. the food here continues to be sub-par. Today’s school lunch:
(the usual) quart of milk
non-descript veggie soup
plain rice
processed fish product shaped like a hollow tube. Breaded and baked. color of raw chicken, texture of over cooked tofu — served with a side of beans mixed with (as usual) nasty, little, tiny fish.

Back
Scott and I are back from our trip to Thailand and Vietnam. It was a lot of fun. Thank goodness this week at school is so crazy noone has had time to think about me. I have no schedule, I just come in and hang at my computer all day. That’s been a nice way to ease back into…well, almost the same thing.
I never really liked Japanese food but after coming back from the absolutely delicious SE Asian cuisine I realize that I actually hate Japanese food. The first thing someone asked me when I got back was (with a wrinkled nose) “eh, could you eat the food there??” It was all I could do not to laugh in her face.
I’ll post some pics up later but if you’re interested in seeing more you can go to my photobucket site:
